Working with a professional organizer

What’s it like to work with a professional organizer? A lot of my clients are a little nervous about what it is like to have someone come into their home to help them declutter and organize—and I’m here to make you feel relaxed about it and EXCITED for it!

The main thing that I want you to know about hiring a professional organizer is—it’s a no judgment zone, 100% of the time. No matter where you’re starting from in organizing—I am here to help you, and your “before” is just fine no matter what it looks like!

The first thing to know is—don’t do anything special for your house before I come to do our initial consultation visit!! Don’t organize or declutter anything that you wouldn’t normally do in preparation for our consultation, because I want to see how things are normally so I know how to best help!

Here are a few other things I like to have clients think about before we start working together. These things can help us make the most of our time together.

  1. Define your goals: Before we start working together, take some time to think about your goals and what you want to achieve. And ask yourself—why is getting organized important to me? What do I want my house to look like when I’m done?

  2. Clear your schedule: We get the best work done together when we have time that is spent working only on organizing.

  3. Kids: If your kids are younger, it’s best to make sure kids have someone to take care of them while we work together. I am a mom of four, and LOVE kids—but to maximize our time together, having a babysitter or time out of the house with a parent or grandparent is most helpful.

  4. Be open to change: Working with a professional organizer means that I’ll be offering you new ideas and ways of doing things. Be willing to let go of old habits and routines and embrace new ones!

  5. Be prepared to make decisions: Working with a professional organizer means that you will need to make decisions about what to keep and what to let go. I’ll help you with these decisions, AND I’ll help you determine great places to donate everything, so you can feel great about where the things you don’t need can go.

Working with a professional organizer can be a great way to transform your home and simplify your life. By preparing ahead of time, you can make the most of our time together to achieve your organizing goals. If you have more questions, please know you can always ask me anything at all!
